Whether you run an e-commerce website, or you have your own small business that is offline or online, or even if you have an item that you just want to sell for extra cash, Craigslist is a great place to marketing your goods and services.

 

Craig Newmark founded Craigslist.org in 1996, and now it gets over 10 million unique visitors a day. The site is basically a classified ad service that is executed completely online. The site is organized by city or region and brings buyers and sellers together in more than 300 places nationwide. The best news of all? Creating a posting on Craigslist is completely free!

 

It may be possible that you have never heard of Craigslist, or at least you are not familiar enough with it to understand how it works, but if you are looking for a free way to marketing your product or service, the guidelines below will help you decide it it’s a good option for you:

Craigslist is highly effective for simple service offerings. This could include music lessons, tutors, car repair or even real estate services. As for goods, items like used vehicles, wholesale furniture, musical instruments, electronics, or other regional manufactured goods are a great bet. Additionally, you can promote an eBay store, a franchise or referral partners. Craigslist can also be the perfect way to promote affiliates or webmasters looking for new business opportunities.

 

Making Craigslist Work For You

 

One issue that is troubling for Craigslist users is that it is very difficult to track page views. It is not a site that you can easily track by using Google Analytics or similar mechanism. I have found that the biggest problem with marketing on Craigslist is tracking the page views. You can, however, use a combination of methods to give a clearer picture of the traffic to your posting.

 

First, you should use Google Analytics on your ad’s landing page. (where the user goes once they click your ad. Additionally, you can set up a special phone number or e-mail address to refer your potential customer to and then track your responses. The problem with this plan is that Craigslist costs are so low, that setting up a phone number or e-mail tracking system is not really worth the cost and effort.
